why is public speaking so important anna ryan therapy

Why is Public Speaking So Important?

Public speaking is not merely a skill; it is a powerful tool that can help you gain credibility and make a real impact. Professionals like you often find themselves in situations where they must present their results, articulate a vision, convince colleagues, or address challenges.
Public speaking opportunities provide you with a platform to increase your visibility and showcase your expertise. Being able to express your thoughts clearly and effectively can help you increase your influence in your organization and industry.
Effective public speaking builds trust. With the ability to communicate persuasively, you can foster trust among team members, stakeholders and clients. Articulate and transparent communication builds confidence in your capabilities and convinces others of your competence.
Your communication style also influences your team’s motivation and morale, so why not strive to create a positive and productive work environment?
when to seek therapy for public speaking anna ryan therapy

When to Seek Therapy for Public Speaking?

If you become anxious when having to speak in front of an audience, you are probably experiencing a variety of different symptoms. These can include physical sensations like a racing heart, shaking or trembling, sweating (especially on palms and forehead), dry mouth or difficulty swallowing, stomach problems, nausea and muscle tension.
You may feel an intense fear or even panic before or during your speech and get the impression that you are inadequate to talk to a large crowd. Negative thoughts lead to self-doubt and catastrophic thinking about potential mistakes.
The fear of forgetting points and freezing result in rigidly hanging on to your notes, not leaving room for spontaneity and often ending in too many filler words (“uh”, “umm”).
You might have difficulty maintaining eye contact with your audience and exhibits signs of nervousness with your gestures.
If you feel mentally and physically exhausted after the event and tend to overanalyse your performance, you are not alone. Dwelling on perceived mistakes is a very common behaviour in public speaking anxiety.
why choose public speaking training anna ryan therapy

Why Choose Public Speaking Training?

As an international debating competition winner and negotiation simulation contest victor, I know exactly what you are dealing with. From feeling excessively nervous, having sweaty hands and not being able to eat anything prior to being on stage, I have also worked my way through a challenging learning process to become a confident, relaxed and spontaneous presenter.
I understand that speaking publicly can trigger major fear in you, tempting you to avoid such appearances altogether, but if you are determined to overcome your fears and develop skills that help you excel in public speaking, this therapy is designed for you.
In therapy, we address components of your problem one by one. We use muscle relaxation and meditation exercises to help ease your physical symptoms. Learning to use these methods on your own will help you keep your mind clear and remain focused during your performance.
In the cognitive part of therapy, we deal with the negative beliefs and destructive automatic thoughts, re-evaluate them and develop more helpful ways of thinking. We learn about our own functioning, and a better understanding will help you identify early warning signs of anxiety and be able to implement useful strategies to cope with them.
The behavioural component of the treatment includes methods like gradual exposure to the feared event(s) and a desensitisation process. Through behavioural experiments, you will have the opportunity to test new habits in reality, and gain reassurance in their functioning.
Adding hypnosis to the therapy can be a powerful tool to reinforce the things we learned and mentally rehearse coping with anxiety-provoking situations. Hypnosis can also be used to give suggestions for self-confidence and strengthen positive self-talk.

Client Testimonials

“As a company director communication is a key part of what I do. The past few years I developed anxiety around speaking in front of people and having confrontational interactions. Not good if you are a director. Anna helped me tremendously. She helped me dissect the problem into key parts then work on those systematically. Both her supportive personality and knowledge about communication and psychology gave a lot to me. I still have some work to do on myself, but now I have no problem speaking in front of many eyes and having confrontational talks with people if necessary. If you need help I highly recommend Anna.”

I felt heard and supported throughout and her flexibility enabled me to navigate sessions based on my current needs. The recordings that she provided were also incredibly helpful. Without hesitation, I would highly recommend Anna to anyone considering cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy.”

“I really enjoyed working with Anna, she was able to make me comfortable and share my feelings about the situation that caused me stress, anxiety and worries. She helped me see the whole situation objectively and the single elements causing me distress. Also, it was valuable to have some plan of action and analyse the different options to find the best solutions to my problem with short and long term advantages and disadvantages.”
Marisa

Anna was a good listener and pointed out some important aspects of my issue. After analysing these, it was easier to find the option with the best outcome. After our sessions, I felt very much relieved and able to find the best solution where all the parties involved could be in a win-win situation. I really enjoyed the sessions Anna delivered, without her input I would still be stuck feeling lost and overwhelmed and unable to take action.”
Phillip

Anna was very experienced, calm and professional.  I immediately felt rapport with her and that I could trust her to listen and not make judgements of my presenting issue.  She was good at listening and asking relevant questions, plus, suggesting processes that we could follow. During our session with Anna we put a plan together that I could follow including coping strategies that I can apply in the future.  She also sent useful information after the sessions for me to use.”
