Strive for Excellence, Not Perfection
Are you tired of
▰▰ Feeling down, tired and overwhelmed all the time?
▰▰ Being obsessed with details and not wanting to submit something until it is perfect?
▰▰ Constantly worrying about deadlines and fearing you won’t be able to deliver on time?
▰▰ Thinking that what you do is ‘substandard’ or that you won’t be able to maintain your performance?
▰▰ Feeling paranoid about feedback from others?
▰▰ Comparing yourself to others, assuming they are all better than you?
▰▰ Feeling that you cannot allow yourself to rest?
If so, you are in the right place.
Although the inner motivation to perform at your best is a valuable trait, having too much of it can cause frustration as well as mental and physical exhaustion, and lead to burnout.

Why am I a Perfectionist?
▰▰ The reasons for perfectionistic behaviour can be manifold, and often there is not just one root cause.
▰▰ Growing up in an environment with high expectations, having a strong fear of failure or a need for control, experiencing early success, certain personality traits and even societal and cultural influences can contribute to becoming a perfectionist.

How Does Therapy Work?
▰▰ When working on problems related to perfectionism, therapy has a strong cognitive focus. This means that we primarily work on the way we think about ourselves, our goals and our values.
❖
▰▰ We identify the beliefs that underlie our way of thinking and our behaviours. By developing alternative, healthier thinking patterns, you will be able to escape the mindset of constant dissatisfaction and rigid demands.
❖
▰▰ During sessions, we also aim to discover how different factors contribute to your problem. By becoming aware of these and understanding your own reactions, you will find it easier to turn unhelpful ways of thinking into more positive and helpful ideas.
▰▰ You will become able to tolerate uncertainty, deal with feelings of vulnerability and fear of judgement as well as create a realistic image of yourself. Mindfulness-based exercises can be used effectively in deepening self-awareness, facilitating emotional regulation and enhancing concentration.
❖
▰▰ Relaxation and regular meditation helps reduce stress and anxiety, while increasing resilience and enhancing cognitive functions such as problem-solving, memory and decision-making.
❖
▰▰ In therapy, I put great emphasis on building skills, thus making sure you become equipped with all the necessary tools you will need in the future to overcome challenges.
